TDES – Triple DES Upgrade
Triple DES upgrade will give ATMs the ability to triple encrypt a PIN number during an ATM transaction. The targeted compliance date is November 1, 2006.
The goal of Triple DES is to better provide a safeguard against identity theft, which is unfortunately becoming more common in today’s society. Most ATMs manufactured prior to 2005 will need to be TDES upgraded, or replaced entirely, with a new ATM that is Triple DES compliant. In most circumstances, this will be a costly upgrade ($700 - $5000, depending on your ATM model). However, Tri-State ATM can offer you a significant discount, or in some cases, a FREE Triple DES Upgrade of your existing ATM machine.
